How Bahria University GPA and CGPA are calculated
Bahria University grades on marks against a fixed table. Its Student Handbook publishes the prevailing grading system as eleven letter grades from A (4.00) down to F (0.00), each with its own percentage range, so your grade depends on your own performance rather than on your class's distribution.
Bahria uses the full HEC .67 and .33 scale, with every plus and minus grade present: A- 3.67, B+ 3.33, B- 2.67, C+ 2.33, C- 1.67 and D+ 1.33. This is worth saying plainly, because several third-party calculators claim Bahria grades on only seven levels in 0.50 steps, running A 4.0, B+ 3.5 and so on down to D 1.5. The Bahria handbook does not support that, and this calculator follows the handbook.
Add one semester at a time, one row per course. You get each semester's SGPA together with the running CGPA up to that semester, plus a transcript-style PDF export when you want the whole record in one place.
The Formula
SGPA = Σ (Grade Point × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ (Credit Hours) // one semesterCGPA = Σ (Grade Point × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ (Credit Hours) // all semestersBahria defines CGPA as the sum of grade points of all credit courses divided by the total credit hours taken from admission to the last examination held. An F scores 0.00 while its credit hours still count.
Worked Examples
Example 1: one semester's SGPA
A 15-credit-hour semester using Bahria grade points.
| Course 1, 3 CH, A (4.00) | 3 × 4.00 = 12.00 |
|---|---|
| Course 2, 3 CH, A- (3.67) | 3 × 3.67 = 11.01 |
| Course 3, 3 CH, B+ (3.33) | 3 × 3.33 = 9.99 |
| Course 4, 3 CH, B (3.00) | 3 × 3.00 = 9.00 |
| Course 5, 3 CH, C+ (2.33) | 3 × 2.33 = 6.99 |
| Total grade points | 12.00 + 11.01 + 9.99 + 9.00 + 6.99 = 48.99 |
| Total credit hours | 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 15 |
Example 2: reaching the Dean's List
The Dean's List needs an SGPA of 3.50 or better over at least 15 credit hours. What does that take across five 3-credit courses?
| Points needed | 3.50 × 15 = 52.50 |
|---|---|
| Four A grades | 12 × 4.00 = 48.00 |
| Remaining 3 CH must supply | 52.50 − 48.00 = 4.50 |
| Required grade point | 4.50 ÷ 3 = 1.50 |
Bahria University Grading Scale
Bahria University's grading system as published in its Student Handbook. Note that the handbook's own bands leave one-mark gaps between some letters; the ranges below are rendered from the published lower bounds rather than silently adjusted.
| Grade | Marks % | Grade Points |
|---|---|---|
| A | 85 and above | 4.00 |
| A- | 80 – 84 | 3.67 |
| B+ | 75 – 79 | 3.33 |
| B | 71 – 74 | 3.00 |
| B- | 68 – 70 | 2.67 |
| C+ | 64 – 67 | 2.33 |
| C | 60 – 63 | 2.00 |
| C- | 57 – 59 | 1.67 |
| D+ | 53 – 56 | 1.33 |
| D | 50 – 52 | 1.00 |
| F | Below 50 | 0.00 |
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Bahria use seven grades or eleven?
Eleven. Bahria's Student Handbook lists A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D and F on the standard HEC .67/.33 scale. Several calculator sites publish a seven-grade 0.50-step table for Bahria, running A 4.0, B+ 3.5, B 3.0, C+ 2.5, C 2.0, D 1.5 and F 0. That does not match the university's own handbook, so this calculator does not use it.
What is the minimum CGPA I need to stay in good standing?
2.00. Falling below it places you on probation, and Bahria's rules allow a limited number of probations before you are dropped from the programme. Individual programmes can set higher requirements for graduation, so check your degree's rules if you are close to the line.
Can I repeat a course to improve my grade?
Yes. Bahria allows courses graded at or below a set threshold to be repeated, and where a repeat applies only the better attempt counts towards the CGPA. Enter only the attempt that stands on your transcript as the counted grade.
Which courses can I take in the summer semester?
Summer registration is for retaking failed courses and improving grades below B (including B-), subject to the university's limits on how many courses you may register. That is a useful planning detail: a B- is improvable, a plain B generally is not.
Does an F count towards my Bahria CGPA?
Yes, and it costs you twice. An F gives 0.00 grade points, and its credit hours stay in the divisor. Enter it as a normal row with its real credit hours, and the calculator handles the zero correctly.
How are exempted courses treated?
They are excluded. When Bahria grants an exemption, the credits earned previously do not count towards the credit or CGPA requirements for the degree, and you take another course to make up the total. Leave exempted courses out of the calculator entirely.
